On the "Road" Again!

We spent the last four days preparing and provisioning the boat for our the next leg of our journey. We left our temporary, two month home at Mariner Cay Marina yesterday. Here are a few pictures of our marina. The time spent in Port Salerno was great, and we will miss the area. We are now heading south towards the Florida Keys. If the winds are favorable, we hope to make Key West at the end of the month.

The first day, we "jumped into the deep end", and did a nine hour trip. We traveled past Jupiter, and along Palm Beach, eventually anchoring in Lake Boca Raton for the night. It was long day, and we had to pass under nine bridges, five of which we couldn't fit under. Some of them open on demand, so we hail them on the radio. Others have specific openings, usually on the hour and half hour, so we had to time our arrival at those to avoid hovering for a hour. We made all of the openings with no trouble. By the end of the day, we were ready to be done with traveling. The long hours paid off though, as we are now a day ahead of schedule, and that's always a good thing.

The area of the Intracoastal just below Palm Beach until about the Fort Lauderdale area is known as "The Canyon". It isn't too wide, and is bordered on either side by concrete bulkheads in front of the houses and such. Boats put out wakes as they travel, the larger and faster the boat, the bigger the wake. The wakes travel over to the bulkheads and bounce back, so you get a constant wave effect. This is made worse by large boats, who don't travel the posted speed, and don't slow down to pass you. It made for a bumpy ride yesterday, and we'll travel more of the canyon today. Zuzu is NOT a fan!

We're all(including the cats)getting used to life underway again. I have to readjust to living "sparingly", as opposed to being hooked up to endless water and power. As usual, we saw some interesting sights, and some incredible large homes. Here are some of my favorites.
