When we checked in at the Hollywood Beach marina, the dock master told us of some places to eat, on the other side of the bridge. He mentioned Le Tub, saying that Oprah had called their hamburger the best in the world. While we were wandering the main road in Hollywood Beach, on our way back from some beach time, we spotted it. We walked inside, and through the maze of plants in toilets and tubs. Tables peaked out from the wood and foliage; we decided to come back for lunch the next day.
At lunch, we sat near the bar, and chatted with a friendly bartender, who tried his best to get us to relocated south. As we shared a terrific sirloin burger and crispy fries, we read some of the history of the place. It was originally a gas station, in 1959. In the energy crunch of the early 70s, it closed, and the current owner purchased the property in 1974. He spent a year, personally building and landscaping Le Tub, using wood and "ocean borne treasures" he'd gathered over 4 years of jogging on Hollywood Beach. The result is a cool atmosphere of wood and plants, mingled with porcelain. There is a warning on the menu, that they do not serve fast food, so if you're in a hurry they may not be able to accommodate you. They only accept cash, and don't have air conditioning, but none of these issues deters you from enjoying great food in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. If you ever find yourself nearby, stop in!!
Here are our photos of Le Tub.
