We spent 4-5 days in Key West. I'll make this short, because I'm familiar and very fond of Key West, and could go on and on. If you've never been, take a trip. You can spend hours roaming the streets, of this 4x6 mile island, looking at all of the different houses. It's very accessible by scooter, bike, or foot. There are endless shops, galleries, restaurants, and of course..bars. Duval Street at night is a sight to see. People of all kinds converge to have fun. The atmosphere is friendly and boisterous, like one big Irish wake.
Our slip was located in Key West's Historic Seaport. It's lined with restaurants and bars, and the harbor is home to transient and live aboard boaters as well as large schooners, catamarans for snorkel tours, and parasail boats. Many, many boaters anchor just off of Key West and then dinghy into the harbor to visit. Many more people anchor their boats off of the island permanently, working on Key West and commuting by dinghy. Consequently, there is much boat traffic going by at all times, provinding endless hours of amusement and interest for Scott. The dinghy dock in the harbor is HUGE, and is constantly full. Scott was amused by it each day, as we walked by it to get to town.
We did a few trips by bike to Smather's Beach, where you can get a great gyro, as well as smoothies made with your fruit of choice. The prices at the food vans here are some of the best in town! We also spent some time at the Schooner Wharf Bar, which is quintessential Key West. It's all outdoor, no real walls, and a mix of al types of locals and tourists. Michael McCloud plays regularly there, in the afternoons. We enjoy his music, so it was a treat to walk the few quick steps from our slip, to hear him play.
Aside from that, we spent time biking and walking the town. We revisited a Mexican restaurant that we'd found a few years before; still as good. Almost anywhere you go, you can strike up a conversation, and meet someone new. Tourists and locals alike want to know where you're visiting from. We met a lot of new people, and had some interesting conversations. Here are some pictures we took. I have a million photos by land, from previous trips, so a lot of these are water oriented.
