We've been traveling more long days this week. It's been warm, but cloudy, so we used the weather as an excused to log extra miles. The 8-9 hour days have dragged on, but we're inching farther north every day.
Yesterday, on Saturday, we pushed, and did a 10 hour day. There were severe storm predicted for late afternoon and overnight, along with tornado warnings. Add to that, a forecast for 20-30 mile winds on Sunday, and Scott was not looking forward to anchoring. So we did the extra miles, and arrived at the marina in Southport, NC a day early(yes, we're now in North Carolina!). We tied up and battened down the hatches.
Thankfully, the tornadoes went north of us. We got a fair amount of lightening and thunder with rain, at about 9pm. Overnight, we had much more rain, and the winds picked up. This am, the sun is coming out, but the wind is blowing like crazy. We're bumping around quite a bit in our slip...something we've become used to on this trip!
Later today, we'll walk in and explore Southport. Here are some pictures from our long hours.
