We left for Norfolk this morning. It was to be a 7-8 hour trip. However, once we got into the bay, it became quickly clear that it was NOT a good day for Caroline and both cats to travel! The winds were 15 miles from the northwest, but mostly north. This far south in the bay, any kind of north wind over 10 miles can be messy. Down here, the wind has had a chance to travel down the bay, and a chance to build the waves.
I had prepared for a bumpy ride, taking anything down that may fall or slide, and relocating it to a more stable place. I didn't prepare enough..a cube of drawers fell from the bedroom onto the hall floor, missing Zuzu, who was hiding in the litter box. That crash sent her searching out shelter behind the futon. The microwave took a big shift, sending everything on top flying to the floor. Stuff in all of the cabinets was sliding back and forth, making an awful noise. Gracie had had enough, and took solace on my lap, her head buried in my arm. Mercifully, Scott turned us around, and we headed back to Jackson Creek, in Reedville. We're already a day ahead of schedule, so this gives us a chance to relax a bit. We had bloody marys on the cockpit, enjoying the sun, and then caught up on things like blogging. :)
The wind forecast for tomorrow looks much better, for now. We have our fingers crossed...I've crossed toes too!
