We left Barefoot Landing, and headed for the Waccamaw River and Georgetown, SC. We saw more mammoth-sized houses, and interesting shoreline. The trees along the Waccamaw seem to float in the water. We saw some odd, floating houses, more like shacks. Not sure if they were for fishing, or had permanent residents. The most odd thing we saw, was a barge that was acting as a public school bus!
As we approached Georgetown, Scott went out on the bow, to ready the anchor, and realized that our windlass was jammed. That means, that we couldn't get our anchor down. I drove, as Scott scrambled to get our back up anchor(luckily, he bought a large one before we left home) and emergency rope. He rigged them up, and we use it to get anchored. After a frustrating time of digging through paperwork, calling the company, and just plain fiddling with it. He got it unjammed, and we we back to normal anchor workings..whew!
We stayed put here for Thanksgiving Day. I'm a big Macy's parade watcher, having been in the parade for five years, so I wanted to relax and watch the parade, then cook dinner and relax some more. The weather was a beautiful 65, so we spent some time outside(Zuzu included), appreciating the warm up. A lot of boats did travel, though. Many passed us throughout the am, headed farther south. We were glad for a break that wasn't weather mandated.
I managed to turn out a Thanksgiving dinner in our tiny kitchen, complete with turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, corn pudding, green beans and rolls. The whole process went smoothly, and we enjoyed our feast. Scott got both a pre AND post meal nap!
Here are a few pictures. Tonight, we will anchor at Caper's Island, on our way to Charleston for the weekend.
