We borrowed the marina's courtesy car. You can sign up for a time to take the car, and are allowed 90 minutes to use it. We set out, following the directions to town(found under the visor). It was a decent ride, maybe about 15 minutes, so a third of your 90 minutes is used up going to and from. Luckily, we knew no one was waiting to use the car next, as we are one of three transient boats here.
Food Lion was our first stop. It's actually on the "highway", Route 284. More like north Harford or York Rds. Off of the highway, there is the Food Lion, both a Dollar General AND a Dollar Store(across the street from each other), Chinese, Pizza and Subs, Hardees, and four gas stations. Three of the four are Hess stations; not sure who's buying all of the gas!
After Food Lion, we found our way to the post office, and then headed to "downtown". We circled the two block radius, and then stopped at Ace Hardware. I had read that they carry all kinds of stuff, from wine and cheese to gifts and such. It was a really nice store. We browsed around a bit, bought a few things, and then headed out to find a place to eat. We had two choices downtown. The place we really wanted to try is only open on Thurs., Fri., and Sat., nights, so we settled for Fish Hooks Cafe. Our lunch was just ok, maybe we should've gone back to the hwy, and hit the pizza and sub place. Oh well, we got off of the boat for a bit, and I didn't have to make our lunch.
By now, our 90 minutes was nearly up, so we stopped to put a few gallons of gas into the car(the marina asks everyone who borrows the car to help keep the tank full) before heading back to the marina. The area is VERY, VERY rural. Towns are about 20 miles apart, and the land is made of of mostly farms.
Once back "home", I did some laundry, and Scott topped off our water tank and jugs. We are settling in for an early night. Tomorrow, we set out at dawn for Oriental, NC. Here are a few pictures of the marina, and our "day" in town.
