Hello South Carolina!

We left our slip in St. James Plantation Marina, headed for Myrtle Beach, SC. To get there, we traveled the Cape Fear River, which then put us into another, narrow channeled canal. Rocks lined the outside of the channel, so it was a tricky go of it. Scott had done hours of research last night, and had marked the trouble spots along our route. With this information, we came through the many shallow, tricky spots with no problems!

Along the way today, we passed quite a few inlets out to the ocean, and could easily see the white caps. There were a lot of beautiful houses that faced the ocean; and, of course the usual giants that lined the intracoastal.

As we came through Sunset Beach, one of the last towns in North Carolina, we had to pass through the Sunset Beach Pontoon Bridge, The bridge tender in in a house that sits on what is basically a barge attached to the bridge. When the bridge is opened, the whole barge swings open from one side. It's pretty neat; the only bridge like this in the US. They are currently building a new, 60 foot high bridge right next to this one, so I'm sure the current one's days are numbered. I'm glad we were able to see it.

Very soon after the bridge...we crossed into SOUTH CAROLINA!!! It felt good to be that much farther along! We had only a short ride left to Myrtle Beach, and our stop for the night, Barefoot Landing. Barefoot Landing is an outdoor shopping/entertainment center. Lots of shops of all kind, and six or seven large restaurants, as well as smaller places to eat. Across the canal from us, is the Barefoot Landing Resort, with upscale condos, spa, marina, etc. Once we were tied up, we strolled around a bit, then headed back to the boat.

I spent some time cleaning, while Scott did a few basic maintenance things. Then we headed back out to eat at Fire Island, one of the restaurants at Barefoot Landing. The restaurant has a Polynesian themed decor. Our dinner was nice, a good way to end the day.

We're getting farther south, and the weather is getting warmer, two big things to be thankful for this holiday! Tomorrow, we continue to Georgetown, SC. We plan to stay there two days, to relax for Thanksgiving. Here are some pictures of our trip today.
