A Close Call

Today's forecast called for wind, rain, strong storms and tornado warnings. We decided against going into town to meet our bar friends at the local breakfast place, and chose to stay dry. After breakfast aboard, I used the bad weather to catch up on some work, and Scott decided to take a late morning nap.

I looked up from my laptop to see some ugly clouds heading our way, so I called to Scott to close the hatch and went back to what I was doing. Scott came out to check on the weather, and noticed a water spout forming near us. I got up to look, just in time to see two boats near us almost capsized by the swirling, fast moving water! It was pretty scary, not knowing if it was going to swerve our way. We watched it go by us, and over toward the ocean. The clouds were starting to form a circular motion, they were really trying to form a tornado. After the front moved by, the rain settled in for most of the day....back to me working and Scott napping.

Scott did a few dingy runs to town later in the day, once for ice and then again to fill our back up water jugs. Aside from that, it's been a quiet day on the boat. Tomorrow, we'll head towards St. Augustine.

Yeah...If you could get some video of a waterspout you could SELL it to the local news! Then again, there's the whole getting sucked up and carried off to OZ thing...
